It is difficult to imagine how Nike, such a prominent skateboard brand, operates behind the scenes. Nike, unlike most other brands, is not open to interviewing about their design process and processes. It’s unlikely that a master chef would reveal his secret recipe but it’s possible to give a demonstration. Shawn Baravetto was a Nike veteran of nine year and a key figure in the development of many popular nike skate shoes, such as the Janoski and P-Rod 3, and a host of iconic Dunk colors. Baravetto, who was about to leave Nike, spoke with us about the challenges of working in a large corporation, the state of skate shoes design, and much more.
