One of skateboarding’s most beloved sons and their shoe of choice – two gone-before-their-time icons – are receiving a fitting tribute.
Lewis Marnell can certainly be argued to have made the Dunk look better than anyone else has. During his time with Nike SB, the sorely-missed Aussie finesser sported mostly Dunk models whilst bringing positive energy to everyone. We can attest that he was one-of-a-kind happy in life and it was impossible to be bummed around him; what you see and hear isn’t embellished.
The Dunk Mid was a favorite for many, and Nike SB has chosen to reissue debatably its most memorable colorway in tribute to Lewis, who proudly sported them throughout their run. It looks like a real effort was put forth to ensure the legacy of both, with a premium upper, Lewis’ signature lion branding on the heel, Lewis memorials on the tongue and insole, and an unreleased but noted financial contribution to a diabetes non-profit in his memory.
The Lewis Marnell Dunk Mid will be released Thursday, January 18 in select shops and will run an even $100.
On a personal note, we sorely miss you, Lewis – we’re more generous, excited and positive for having known you. Thanks for being a friend and hype man. – the #RLteamofnerds
