Celebrating The 1st Annual DECE Day 2017

On May 6th, 2016, the Queens skateboarding community was heartbroken by the untimely loss of their very own James “Dece” Rubio. Before passing at the tender age of 24, he left an incredible impression with skateboarders everywhere throughout the 5 boroughs.

A year to the day since his passing, we were proud to co-host an event in his memory alongside some of his favorite brands. A guaranteed forecast full of rain was scheduled for the day and threatened the event from even happening, but it would appear that DECE or some form of a miracle kept the weather from intervening with this incredible occasion.

It’s hard to put into words how much DECE influenced those around him. Never one for somber moments, James “DECE” Rubio was the life of the party and acted accordingly. No one moment was celebrated; every day was cause for celebration for DECE. With his untimely passing devastating his family and loved ones, his energy and mentality live on through the people he touched. As a result, DECE Day set off without any interruptions. From a relay race, to a best trick in Timb’s contest, the event was a true representation of how DECE loved to skate.

A huge thanks goes out to Quasi, Nike SB, MOB Grip, ONLY NY, Belief, Lick NY, 4Wheels, Canal NY, Fairweather, NY Skatboarding, and Chadie for helping make this event possible.
