Vans Celebrates Their 50th Year Anniversary By Reissuing Salman Agah’s Legendary Pro Model

Originally released 23 years ago, the Salman model has seen some highlighting of late, given the rise in rubber-toed footwear over the last couple years. Revered by many as the best rubber toe shoe (or skate shoe in general) ever made, the Salman has seen more than a few high rankings on “greatest ever” listicles and remains influential.

Salman Agah is best known as a pioneer of switch skating, seemingly able to defy physics and float his tricks in something of a Jason Lee in Video Days meets Sheffey in A Soldier’s Story fashion. His lofty tech contributions to skateboarding earned him SOTY in 1993, and his varying video parts pushed skateboarding in some fashion each time.

Agah had 5 Vans models in total, creating something of a statistical inevitability for the emergence of one of them, given the ’90s influence and penchant for reissues of late.salman-top

No word yet on the shifts, if any, in construction. Although, upon looking at the original model, one could see notable differences.

Currently, the shoe may be available at select skate shops, but no word on pricing or an official release date yet- as we received these photos from an anonymous source. Check back for more additional info as this release develops.

I had these. I just remember them being SOOOO HEAVY! Still dope though. I would assume they’d update the construction.

Can someone explain why the halfcab has always been available but these disappeared. Especially since this shoe actually looks a whole lot more functional and salman seemed more relevant than cab (at least from 00-10)

I’m gonna go with profit as the reason. Cab’s stuff always sold better than Agah’s.

The cut is lower. Kind of bummed on that. But if Agah is getting royalty I’ll get a pair or two

I’m bummed too. The shape of the originals were narrower and had a longer/less rounded toe. The rubber toe was diff too. This model loses a lot of the charm that the og’s had. oh well, I’ll have to keep dreaming of deadstock versions out there.

It’s great that they’ve re-issued these but why not stay faithful to the original shoe?

His second shoe was super good too. Really simple and had a wide fit. I always wanted this shoe, and I can’t wait to grab a pair and skate em.
