Modernizing The Kalis Lite With A Not-So-Modern Approach

Many have noted the early 2000’s boom that’s taken over. Whether one person is solely responsible for it or if it comes as a means of throwing a wrench in the gears, I think we can all agree that it’s been fun to watch.

As fashion is an ever-changing mechanism, we find ourselves perplexed again with a new development. Just as the rest of the world was getting used to seeing the Kalis Lite with the motocross-inspired outsole, we saw a clip of Kalis skating his newly appointed shoe with a flat sole. The majority certainly won’t mind, especially because a flat sole is always generally favored, but I think its fair to say that if “it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”….or maybe not.

In the case that you think it’s broke, DC should alter this outsole by continuing to pay homage to their rich history. In hopes that they do, Love Park’s own Brian Panebianco took matters into own hands by doing just that. Using a Lynx 2 outsole from his own personal collection, Brian mended two much needed worlds together to make the shoe that most of us are patiently waiting for.

In his IG clip, Kalis appears to be skating his JK Lite with the newly debuted “New Jack” outsole. While the jury is still out on that particular model, we ponder: If the Kalis Lite gets a flat outsole, which would you favor? One of the past, like the Lynx 2? Or a more modernized one with updated technology?

Gotta be honest, I don’t love this combo. I would rather see a Centric sole on there (if we were to keep it to Kalis models, that sole had great board feel and flexibility). Sole of a MikeMo shoe might keep to the aesthetics of the upper better, as well as skate well! If we were to get a release with the New Jack tooling, my interest is definitely there.

Keep the runner toe, just flatten it out a bit. I hated the lynx 2 sole, with the cross? Weak. The new jack honestly looks flimsy, and slightly cheaply made. The cushioning is a joke and it looks tiny and fits tiny. The sole design is cool, I wish they and an insole to back it. Just keep the new kalis as ism skates great and looks dope too!

If they do release a flat outsole version I hope they shrink the DC logo on the side back to its original size and remove the duplicate logo from the tongue… They need to distance themselves from the logo-in-your-face days of Dyrdek.

There’s such a divide there. On one end, you have people who are in love with the nostalgia of their logo and others, like yourself, who they think they need to separate themselves from it altogether. It’s hard to know which is the best approach… hmmmm…
