Before you get your hopes up, no, The Secret Tape is not an online video rental space for skate videos.
While that idea could easily happen, now that we’ve mentioned it… crap. Now we’ll have to talk about the prospects of collecting on the idea whenever someone decides to steal it from us. Anyway…
Named after the famed challenge in THPS games, The Secret Tape is more like a movie rental store than Netflix. For those of you too young to know what a movie rental store is, think about how you load up Netflix on your computer to watch movies and tv shows, except replace loading up Netflix with having to go to a physical location in a crappy strip mall somewhere and whatever device you use for streaming with a VCR that may or may not be missing the rewind button. If you’re unfamiliar with a VHS, here’s a link explaining it.
After scrolling through IG, we stumbled upon The Secret Tape, an account solely dedicated to reuniting you with some much needed skate videos. If you’ve ever scratched or ruined a beloved DVD or VHS, The Secret Tape is here to help.
There’s no way of knowing exactly how they have a surplus amount of treasured skate videos, but we’re not concerned with that – we’re concerned with getting a video that we don’t have anymore, just as you might be. While we’re in search for the original soundtrack of Adio’s “One Step Beyond,” (the one where Brian Sumner skates to Saves The Day) you might be looking for another video that might’ve been damaged during a move or don’t have because you lent it to your friend that doesn’t even skate anymore and they never gave it back. Fuck that guy! He was a kook anyway, amIright?
Whatever the case may be, if you’re in search of a skate video and are tirelessly looking on eBay for it with no luck, you might want to bypass all of those headaches and visit The Secret Tape on Instagram. With their wide selection, you’ll probably go on their store with expectations of buying one video and check-out with about five, but please, hands off of said Adio One Step Beyond version.
Only adding to skateboarding’s growing second-hand market, consider The Secret Tape your new go-to for yearned skate videos. After all, watching videos on YouTube is fine and all, but there’s something much more satisfying about dedicating an afternoon to connecting the ol’ VCR and popping in a tape.
