Talkin’ Colorways with Mike Carroll and his Lakai Staple

The significance of a shoe should never be undermined. It’s no secret that a good design and fit can do astronomical things for your skating. This phenomenon of good timing coinciding with a good shoe can create incredible results – even a culture within itself. Such is the case with the Lakai Staple.

The Staple, now 15 years since its original debut, is back in a more modernized form. The vulcanized take on this classic cupsole features the same colorways that initially came out. With its rerelease, we had to sit down with one of its earliest fans to ask some pressing questions.

During our conversation with Mike Carroll, he spoke on early beginnings with leaving DC Shoe Co. to start Lakai Limited Footwear. The risk involved during that time was great, but his ability to throw caution to the wind and follow his intuition generated a company that is now celebrating 16 years in business. The Staple is one of many columns that sits securely atop Lakai’s sturdy foundation and, in recognizing that, this highly anticipated reissue is now available for all to enjoy.

These shoes are one of the reasons Lakai will stay one of my favourite skate shoe brands. Great team and created by skaters for skaters. That sounds so mr advertiser, sorry

they need to get back those cupsole manchesters, I don’t even know why they stopped making them. I bought a pair on eBay from 2006 and they skate amazing, no XLK.

Airwalk Enigmas?!?!!? What did the sample of the Embarko look like??? Mike Carroll’s Vans were so good too, especially in the camel, green, black sole colorway

According to MC, the Embarko sample was way less clunky than the production version that came out. It skated great & Mike also said that if you want to see the colorway of that shoe that he’s talking about, direct your eyes to his “The Chocolate Tour” part where he’s skating them.
